Adventures in Awareness  Issue #2 - 2016

“A life of ‘enough’ is born in every moment - in the way we listen, the way we respond to the world, the way we see what is, and tell the truth of who we are. Every single choice, every single moment, every change of course can bring us closer to a life of peace, contentment, authenticity, and easy sufficiency, a life of being, having, and doing enough.” - Wayne Muller, executive leadership mentor and author (b. 1953)

Milestones

Reflections on living ‘a life of being, doing & having enough’

Over the past two months, I’ve marked two major milestones in my life: finishing my 18-year tenure on faculty with inviteCHANGE, an ICF-accredited coach-training program, and entering my 65th year. As a result of these events, I’ve been immersed in reflections about my life, my work, and my future.

My colleagues at inviteCHANGE created a moving completion party to acknowledge and celebrate our teamwork together over the years. In forming a constellation timeline with all of us, we lined up in order of when we joined the organization, beginning with me in 1997 and ending with the newest team member. One of my colleagues pointed out that this line represents the lineage of my contributions to the world of professional coaching, and that it doesn’t stop with the newest team member but continues ad infinitum for all who follow. That realization took my breath away in its enormity, and as each person shared what they appreciated most about my interactions with them, my heart flowed with gratitude and appreciation for the opportunities I’ve had to serve in those ways. They created a video montage containing pictures from the classroom and graduation events over the years, as well as notes and videos received from students and past faculty members. What a powerful experience it was to watch it within the warm bosom of my ‘professional family’ and now to be able to revisit it periodically as a reminder of how much love and respect I share with each of them.

My 65th birthday celebrations have been many and varied, and will continue to unfold through the end of the month – I typically enjoy January as my ‘birthday month’ rather than simply one day of the month. The multitude of loving cards and messages I’ve received have again reminded me that even the smallest of acts of kindness, sharing, and caring has a remarkable and lasting impact. As a result, rather than feeling ‘old’ or ‘older,’ this milestone birthday illuminates for me how truly blessed I am to have such a significant ‘global family’ of friends, colleagues and family members with whom I continue to play, learn, and grow.

The reciprocity of contribution between all of these people and me is what I’m now defining as  ‘living a life of being, doing, and having enough’ [see the quote in sidebar]. I don’t need to be anyone other than who I am to have a wealth of loving relationships.  I don’t need to have loads of money; I always have what is needed when I need it, which is always more than enough. And I don’t need to do anything I don’t enjoy to ‘do enough’; my work and how I live creates joy and possibility in my life, making my life a ripple of the same to others.

I have a feeling that these realizations and others will continue to validate my ‘enough-ness’ throughout this milestone year and on into the future, for which I am quite grateful!

CONTINUING THIS ADVENTURE INTO AWARENESS
In what ways are you living ‘a life of being, doing and having enough’? What needs to shift within you to experience it more often?

I invite you to consider these questions and, as you do, notice what new awareness emerges from within you. And please remember to have FUN on that awareness adventure into the question, okay?

Happy exploring!

THE ENERGY SOUP REPORT:

Since we’re all inextricably interconnected to each other, our planet, and our universe, here are some of the energies we’re all swimming in together right now:

Full Moon - Jan 23rd 5:47 PM [Pacific Time]  ~ remember that Full Moons are times to review your intentions and assess their progress, making adjustments to make them more useful.

The Power Path ~ This is a moon that supports personal expression and an experience of personal power. Acknowledge what you have accomplished this month in terms of RESET and celebrate your own your talents, unique capabilities and personal power. If you feel overwhelmed about what is coming into your life, take a deep breath, ask for clarity, and be willing to allow that which does not serve you to be gone, making room for what wants to manifest.

Stephanie Austin, EcoAstology ~ The next full moon peaks on Saturday January 23 at 3º Leo-Aquarius. Leo is the sign of the individual; Aquarius, the sign of humanity. We’re in the dawn of the Age of Aquarius, which calls each person to share their unique gifts.

Madeline Gerwick, Business Astrologer, Polaris Business Guides ~ This is a reminder that we’re in a period of time now when driving can be dangerous [through Feb 8th]. Don’t talk on your cell phones while you’re driving now. To do so is to play a game of deadly roulette. Pay extra attention to what’s going on when you drive now. You may encounter unexpected and very dangerous conditions,  (Mercury conjunct Pluto and both square Uranus), which could need split second reactions to keep you safe. So be extra alert out there.

Cosmic*Intelligence*Agency ~ Full Moons in Leo invite us to integrate our need to develop our individual self, with our desire to participate in the evolution of the collective, regardless of individual needs. This mirrors our life long pull and push between our need to shine as an individual (Leo) and our awareness that in order to observe and change the greater pattern of humanity (Aquarius), we need to remain a somewhat anonymous, detached outsider. The Sun, which is the ruler of Leo, holds the key to integrating these two polarities at this time. Through forming a solid sense of Self in the process of individuation, we become our own authority, with less concern for the opinions of others, including our family and tribe. Fiery Leo also rules the heart, reminding us that the more we center ourselves in our heart, the more we can contribute constructively to the Aquarian evolution of humanity. Once we inhabit love we are no longer attached to a need to be special and all our actions become an extension of love.

Jan 10-Feb 6 is the “Resonant Moon [Month] of Attunement” according to the Galactic Calendar - its energies are Channel-Inspire-Attunement; its Totem Animal is Monkey. “The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” ~ WB Yates

January Theme - “Reset”

The Power Path - Lena & Jose Stevens:  We have been through a time of transition, change, scatter, chaos, and unexpected challenges as well as powerful opportunities for creativity, improvement and personal growth. The general influences of this year will continue to support our evolution enabling us to shift our experience of life to a different energetic platform, one of a higher vibration and expression of essence.

Ongoing ENERGY SOUP:

Mercury Retrograde - Jan 5- 25 2016 - Mercury rules all types of communication, including listening, speaking, learning, reading, editing, researching, negotiating, selling, and buying. Mercury also rules all formal contracts and agreements, as well as important documents such as book manuscripts or term papers, agreements, deeds, contracts, leases, wills, and so forth…When a planet retrogrades, astrologically it is in a resting or sleeping state. Therefore, while Mercury naps, the activities that it governs don’t have the benefit of a well-functioning, wide-awake planet to supervise them. Expect a certain degree of pandemonium to ensue! This is a time to check and double-check anything related to communications.

Saturn-Neptune Squares –  Jun 17 2016; and Sep 10 2016 - Stephanie Austin, EcoAstrology - This Saturn–Neptune square is part of a larger synodic cycle of 36 years. Squares mark important turning points; these are waning squares, considered by Dane Rudhyar ‘a crisis in consciousness,’ where we must re-orient ourselves and release forms which no longer support our growth…Saturn–Neptune squares challenge us to manifest from our essence rather than our ego, and to follow our intuition and inner guidance rather than external authority and convention. We are summoned to spiritual maturity, which entails letting go of martyrdom and victim mentality, blame and guilt, addictions and illusions. By making more time and space in our lives to connect with our higher self, we are able to see where we have been in denial, where we have abdicated our power, and how we can instead live with both integrity and vision, pragmatism and faith. As we engage more with nature, meditation, and the wisdom of our heart, we see through the fears and beliefs that block us from embodying our truth…

Some ways to work with this ongoing Saturn-Neptune square:

  • Simplify. Less can be more—more time, less hassle.
  • Prioritize. A powerful mantra: What is most important in this moment?
  • Set realistic goals. Make reminders of what is most important to you.
  • Listen to your body. Aches, pains, illness are are messages that we need to make a change.
  • Pay attention to your dreams. Both day and night dreams provide valuable pointers.
  • Give yourself daily soul time. Meditate, do art, play music, dance, journal, walk, etc.
  • Be completely honest. Tell the truth always, with compassion for all concerned.
  • “Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty” (Anne Herbert)
  • Be in gratitude. Thankfulness opens the heart and the way for more blessings to come.
  • And most importantly: “Practice responding to every emotion or thought of fear, anger, resistance, shame, judgement, excitement, or whatever with one word–“interesting”, asking yourselves; “What am I believing that is making me feel this way, is it true?
