Introspection – The ‘Perfect Space’ for a New Moon
Adventures in Awareness Issue #10
“There is so much about my fate that I cannot control…but other things do fall under the jurisdiction. I can decide how I spend my time, whom I interact with, whom I share my body and life and money and energy with. I can select what I can read and eat and study. I can choose how I’m going to regard unfortunate circumstances in my life-whether I will see them as curses or opportunities. I can choose my words and the tone of voice in which I speak to others. And most of all, I can choose my thoughts.” - Elizabeth M. Gilbert, American author, essayist, short story writer & memoirist (18 Jul 1969-)
Introspection - The ‘perfect space’ for a New Moon
Heartfelt thanks and much appreciation to those of you who reached out because you realized my messages had been missing in recent weeks. I am aware once again that it’s important to leave a bit more white space and introspective time than I did. As I write that, I chuckle because I realize that there will likely be one or more times that will occur. You’ve never done that, right? [Wink, wink]
And speaking of introspective time, I’m still immersed in that for now with a myriad of thoughts and ideas whirling that are not yet quite ready to come together. My ‘muse’ and I have agreed to go with the flow, which means this message is purposely short. As I began these ‘Adventures…’ messages, I promised myself that they would emerge only from experiences that coalesce into words that create space for curiosity, exploration, and connection with readers. Perhaps what will make this message beneficial is the simple fact that I’ve chosen to write it at all - only time might tell.
Although my usual flow isn’t occurring just yet, I trust that as I continue to reflect and be still, the next messages will reveal themselves. As they do, I promise to share them with you!
IN THE MEANTIME, IN KEEPING WITH THIS ISSUE’S QUOTE & ‘ENERGY SOUP’ THEMES, I OFFER A QUESTION TO POSE TO YOURSELF:
What supports setting aside and engaging in times for introspection, imagining, and relaxation?
I invite you to consider this question and, as you do, notice what new awareness emerges from within you. And please remember to have FUN on that awareness adventure into the question, okay?
THE ENERGY SOUP REPORT:
Since we’re all inextricably interconnected to each other, our planet, and our universe, here are some of the energies we’re all swimming in together right now:
Venus Retrograde - Jul 25-Sep 6 - Stephanie Austin, EcoAstrology - Venus retrograde summons us to bring more beauty and balance into our lives, especially with regard to our relationships, finances, and creative pursuits. Venus retrogrades for six weeks every 18 months, urging us to reflect on our values, what makes us happy, and what we might be missing. This is an excellent time to heal old heartbreaks, take care of unfinished business, and make more room in your life for things that bring you joy. What have you always wanted to do? What would help heal and open your heart? What do you need to accept, forgive, and/or release?
Uranus Retrograde - Jul 26-Dec 25 - Stephanie Austin, EcoAstrology - Uranus highlights where we need to break old patterns and make a radical shift; use its retrograde phase to explore alternatives. Where do you need to be more independent and innovative? Where do you need to take a leap of faith? Uranus reminds us that in order for things to change, we have to change.
New Moon - Jul 15th - 6:25 PM Pacific Daylight Time - A New Moon is always an opportunity for a reset. If there is anything going on in your life that needs a reset, do it now.
What’s getting started at the New Moon on July 15th looks very transformational for our thinking, our actions and our motivations - be mindful and purposeful with your choice of words. Due to some volatile energies before and after the New Moon, this period can be physically dangerous, with a higher chance of accidents than usual; be extra careful driving.
New moons invite us to pause, be still, and tune inward. In modern materialistic cultures, this is not something generally valued nor encouraged. Just before the new moon is a great time to allow ourselves to be in that liminal place of not knowing, for then we can discover something truly new. There is the Zen story of a teacher pouring a cup of tea for a new student. He picks up the teapot and starts to pour. He continues pouring even though the cup is overflowing. The student cries: “What are you doing?!” The teacher replies: “Your mind is like this cup. How can I teach you anything when it is already full?” New moons are optimal times to empty our cups, suspending our assumptions and opinions in order to see new truths, possibilities, and pathways.
This is a time of assessment and truth telling. This New Moon may also bring something completely unexpected into your life. Whatever it is, see it as a gift and allow it to anchor you into something new. Allow others to support you at this time with whatever it is that you need. Don’t anticipate or expect things to be a certain way just because they have been that way for the past few weeks. Welcome change. If your life has been difficult, embrace ease. An issue not resolved can suddenly dissolve. A perceived limitation can lose its constrictive hold. Spend some time this new moon with a focus on expanding and stretching your container beyond what you think you know to be true. Anything is possible!
This New Moon in the sign of Cancer is a heightened time wherein your Soul can reignite its Emotional Intelligence; when you can further develop an active intuitive awareness; and when you can lift yourself out from the herd mentality to more confidently walk alone, trusting your own inner instincts and feeling your way along your path. But this forth coming New Moon is especially powerful in terms of replenishing, renewing and regenerating your emotional body, due to the ‘co-incidence’ of other celestial portents either side of this lunation. For those living within an awakened, more conscious, self-responsible and co-creative paradigm, there will be times wherein it is necessary to descend into the Underworld – your Underworld! Rather than fighting the dark clouds that occasionally loom overhead; rather than despair at the state of the world, its anger, ignorance and destructiveness; rather than feeling impotent and frustrated, alone and isolated, know that the dark is a time wherein you have been offered a gift!! The gift on offer is that of deeper insight – insight into how genuinely ‘free’ you are from the fear based residuals that remain within you, perhaps unacknowledged, unhealed and/or conveniently ignored!!
Jun 27-Jul 24 is the “Cosmic Moon [Month] of Presence” according to the Natural Time Calendar - its energies are Endure-Transcend-Presence: “I am the embrace of all hands ever held.”
This month we have reached the time of adolescence in our own growth cycle and evolution. It is emotionally hormonal, reactive against old structures and perceived limitations, and extremely uncomfortable. We don’t know who we are anymore, can’t relate to our world, and tend to moodiness and resistance. And just like it was when you were 11 or 12 or 13 years old, the only way to the other side is through. To stay behind is not an option. Change is the only thing that we can truly count on. So it is not a question of whether or not we move through this cycle but HOW we move through it. The Growing Pains and discomfort are connected to the false personality and its resistance to change. You may experience breakthrough, freedom and relief in one area of your life where sudden change occurs and then in another area you may fall into great resistance and suffering. One day you may hear a piece of news that sends you spiraling into the depths of depression depending on your ego attachments, and the next day the same situation may spur and inspire you to explore your creativity in a different way, supporting necessary change in your life. The key is to pay attention to what is showing up and how it is showing up and to stay out of negative reaction. Neutrality and acceptance around any situation will go a long way in moving you through the belches and glitches that threaten to derail your sense of well-being.
